The Department of Economics at the University of Crete is dedicated to research and teaching at the highest level. It was established in 1987 and has consistently focused on providing education that follows the newest developments in Economics as well as the needs of the job market. Its curriculum is particularly modern and carefully structured. There are two degree tracks: "Business Economics" and "Economic Theory and Policy". Additionally, the students have the opportunity to choose courses from a wide range of subjects, such as public economics, finance, tourism economics, international economics, environmental economics, political economy, digital economy, entrepreneurship, management and marketing, programming languages, machine learning, data analysis, and many others. The graduates of the Department have excellent job prospects in businesses, in public organizations, in the financial and banking sector, in research institutions, etc. Examples of recent placements of our graduates include Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY, Grant Thornton, Deutsche Bank, ABN AMRO Bank, Grecotel, Adecco, Megaplast, ING, Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, University of Southampton, University of Macedonia, etc. The recognition of the Department and its academic staff also helps out graduates to gain admission to graduate programs in Greece and at renowned universities abroad. The Department offers two postgraduate programs, in Economic Theory and Policy and in Business Economics, as well as a PhD program.
