Information-theoretic solutions to ill-posed problems in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics

Room: Zoom

Presenter: Affuso Ermanno, University of South Alabama

Hadamard defines ill-posed problems as those that neither have a solution nor a unique or stable solution exists given the available data. The maximum entropy formalism is an information-theoretic-based statistic that allows the estimation of ill-posed inverse economic problems with an extreme degree of precision in the presence of limited data. I will present two empirical applications of the maximum entropy formalism that could be useful in normative and positive settings to design sustainable environmental policies.
